I grew up on a large cattle ranch in a remote part of Wyoming. We were hours away from the nearest small town so I went to a little country school with one other pupil—my brother. During my grade school years, I didn’t count my brother as a friend. Instead, we took turns taunting each other at recess. Back then, I wasn’t picky about friends.

This is a great article. I know, and have watched several people choose , as Jesus said not to put roots down into poor soil. I have seen people start to make good choices, then start to surround themselves with people that pull them in their old direction. Only to watch them (helplessly..) fall back into their old. destructive lifestyle.

Personally, I strive to surround myself with people that support me, and help me grow in the things I want out of my life.

      Hi Mike

I’m glad you liked the article. I have always loved the parable of soils and when I read the Plato quote, I saw how it all fit together. Good friends are hard to find, and once I find one, I keep him or her. Surrounding ourselves with people who support us is one of the most important things we can do in life.

      Have a great day.

  2. Choosing a friend wisely is not saying that you are better than someone else. It is saying that you value friendship that mutually benefit both individuals.
